IT HURT BAD SEEING my mother in that casket, frozen in time. All the memories, all the love she gave me seemed to stop at fifty-four. I will never get to love my mother past fifty-four. I always thought Mama would be playing around with her some grandkids one day, and not in the hood either. She would be playing with them in a big ass backyard in the burbs. Mama would hold them tight and kiss them with a thousand drops of love.

For as much as I would have loved to see Mama at the many other stages in my life, I know that she’ll see me as she smiles the smiles that the angels sing. Her journey was short lived but surely she is in a better place. How much time is enough time with the one you love? This shit ain’t right.
